Felon Brandished Weapon During Dispute Outside Arlington Apartments, Police Say

A convicted felon is facing fresh charges in Virginia after allegedly breaking out a handgun during an argument with an acquaintance in Arlington.

Colin Brown, 44, was arrested overnight after members of the Arlington Police Department were called to the 100 block of North Thomas Street while he was brandishing a handgun, officials say.

According to police, officers were called shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 to investigate an incident after Brown and a second man were outside an apartment building when they got into a heated dispute. 

During their fracas, it is alleged that Brown made threatening statements and took out a weapon, though the other man was able to flee the area and alerted the department.

Responding officers were able to arrest Brown without incident, and they recovered the firearm, ammunition, and suspected narcotics, officials said.

The Arlington resident was charged with: 

  • Brandishing;
  • Possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance;
  • Two counts of felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition;
  • Possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs.
